hero wouters is a dutch artist who has been active since 1950. through the years he has been involved in many (music) projects. his work in the field of electronic music ranges from synthpop to experimental music. some people might know him from his collaborations with the legendary pink dots and edward ka-spel. other people might know him from his contributions to the obscure contactdisk vinyl series or his appearance on the legendary dutch ding-dong tape label. featured on this lp is work by hero wouters from 1982, 1984, and 1986. most of the material was written for a dutch film (‘een zaak van leven en dood’) and a theatre play (‘laios’). the music has been (partly) released on cassette on hero’s own label herophone. now it is for the first time available on vinyl. the music has been restored from the original tapes and mastered for vinyl with great care not to loose the original feeling. below you can find soundclips for the tracks but we feel these do not give a really good impression of the record. the music (and the record) have to be heard in total (and as a whole) to be fully experienced and appreciated. we are proud to present this beautiful and simply fantastic music by a dutch artist that deserves more attention. the wonderful cover artwork is a drawing by maaike.

edanticonf s music feels perfectly crafted for the brooding atmospheric venues he so often performs in. both the aforementioned adjectives can be attributed to his style of techno too, one that places the focus less on the technical side and more onthe human one, aiming to reflect his emotions and state of being through the hazy soundscapes that draw influence from the natural scenery around him.

it had been four years since juxtaposition, radians last record. chimeric is not a polished album. within the context it is raw, broken, even dark sometimes. steady, multiple rhythms, layered on top of each other disappear into chaos and turn back into discreet structures in the next moment. references of rock music, executed with the precision of a sequencer, mutated, restructured. a lot on this album is about control and the loss of control. the risk of failure. but chimeric is much more free. some of the longer pieces are composed of very different parts and different colours along a continuous timeline. they tend to evolve in a narrative form and are moving through various scenes and surroundings, which is also present in the spacial relationship between the instruments.

it goes without saying that space has always been central to techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements. etapp kyle’s first full ostgut ton ep release sees the ukrainian-born, berlin- based berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding techno’s overt intergalactic clichés. by partially linking to his continuum ep (unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. opener “alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. while a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. from there, “quantum” on a2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.

latest installment from eleve music is produced by madrid duo uanamani. derk and iterbio have been studying sound and spinning records for many years, and currently uanamani is one of the top local live acts in underground events in madrid. their analog multi-instrumental set up digs classic ambient and deep techno which morphs into a live organism, with tribal touchs from around the world. they join eleve inviting us to dive into their myths. during the journey, expect first class deep techno with bursts of reverberant hihats, syncopated percussions and harmonic wind whistlings, blurring the lines between adventure and mystery. the organic feeling is present through the whole ride with mutating arpeggios that will make the most obscure rituals go hypnotic.

while still popping up on the likes of delusions of grandeur and mister saturday night, nebraska has been lately channeling much of his energy into his emergent friends & relations label as a vessel for his own productions. this third installment on the label kicks off with the warm, honey-coated chords of rien ne vas plus, which rides on an easy groove and lets the keys sing out in a hazy summer reverie. the version follows suit with a similar disposition, while both takes on dont you know on the b side deal in a common goal to gently coax all kinds of woozy soul sounds through a laid back house framework.

the street edits label has been playing it cool and deadly since 2013, and now hits its tenth release with two crucial jams for the heads-down party heads. jtt, a shadowy figure with links to the bristol scene, gets deep in the chop-up on -know 2 much-, eschewing any obvious vocal licks in favour of the heavy, rolling funk of his source material. boogie cafe takes a different approach with -dynamite-, letting the core of the track shine through in all its bright, brassy glory. when he does go in for the cuts and fx on the breakdowns, it s oh-so sweet though. this is how edits should be done.

roots vocalist barry brown has an inimitable style that has long made him a favourite of reggae enthusiasts. drawing from the popular phrasing of horace andy, but morphing it into his own delivery through the kind of wordless slurring that occasionally resembles the sound of a quacking duck, brown found his way into the jamaican music scene through the many amateur west kingston talent contests of the early 1970s, along with fellow aspiring talents such as johnnie clarke, sugar minott and the african brothers, and the mighty diamonds. he also honed his vocal skills on local west kingston sound systems such as tape tone, together with other young dancehall-oriented youth such as barrington levy, sammy dread, roy taylor and tristan palmer. there are still conflicting claims as to who was the first to record brown, with production veteran bunny ‘striker’ lee and sugar minott among the contenders, but in any case, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, he produced a range of captivating work for various producers, much of which is rightly coveted today. ‘ital rock’ appeared on barry’s 1983 lp i’m still waiting, issued by rocktone international, a spin-off of sugar minott’s black roots outfit, based in queens, new york (with a further branch in toronto), the b-side has dean fraser’s previously unreleased electrifying saxophone cut, rescued from dub plate obscurity by jah fingers.

drummer and music producer desmond mahoney is another of the unsung heroes of british reggae. born in jamaica, he moved to the uk in 1967 and began his professional career playing drums in a band called young ones from zion. he was a founding member of black slate when the group formed in 1974, played with them through their glory years and after running a sound system in north london for many years, returned to the fold when the group reformed a few years ago. his first foray in music production probably came during a brief period in toronto in 1978, working with a band called the ishan lions, but he was back in the uk in time for black slate’s breakthrough material, which brought them onto ensign in the uk, barclay in france and alligator in the usa. at the same time, he continued to arrange and produce for a number of british reggae artists operating in both the roots and lover’s rock modes, female duo nya & natty’s ‘one love stylee’ seemed to bridge the two styles quite successfully on this greatly sought-after 12-inch, first issued in 1981 on the s&g label, then based at a record shop in bow.

mattes schwarz started djing in 1982 at age twelve, inspired by, as many west-german kids, the gi-djs of the roller skating rinks around us army bases. while he got heavily involved in cologne’s bmx scene of the 90s, he never really stopped, and during the main years of being known as stecken-mattes and playing there each friday night, he coincidently lived in magazine record’s homebase, north- eastern cologne’s old harbour. one day after stecken’s closure had sent restructuring ripples through the city - i imagine him getting up in the morning and taking a deep breath - he decided to send magazine a few tracks. “i don’t know” is mattes schwarz’ first release.

emerging through storm-like waves of distortion, opener ‘alpha’ sets the scene for this beguiling cassette release, with melodies rising out of — and then descending back into — the chaos. ‘3000 years’ takes vocal samples as a starting point, before melting into layer upon layer of delay, after which ‘confounded’ picks up the pace with its heavily distorted beats and the side then closes to the sound of a distant choir burning in acidic ambience in the shape of ‘fruitless clicking’. the nightmarish, malfunctioning machinery vibes continue onto the second side, with the more dance oor-friendly ‘strange conversations’ and ‘the brink’ bookended by the two-part ambient epic ‘pale blue dot’. dark, glitchy, and at times outright uncomfortable — perfectly suited to the cassette format.

check track 3 .... field records looks to l estasi dell oro (christopher ernst, aka penalune) for a new three-track ep for sound systems that once again takes us down the rabbit hole. following on from his previous i look upon nature while i live in a steel city album in 2015, this is another masterfully drawn out and engaging affair. -either to please or to educate- is the intended purpose of this ep release, utilizing guitar, tabla, and other electronic and acoustic instruments. the incessant movement of the metronomic tremors felt underneath our plains lay the rhythm. the threadbare dialogue we use to communicate frays slightly further. these spirals are given an explicit voice through leader annabelle kuwe s dispassioned public address to the remaining world at the great meeting of 2166, as recounted by sadie lapierre on closer achieve ignition .

the make mistakes gang returns with their second record in the form of remixes of roy england s techno rocker, photon. what you get here is a package of dance floor cuts showcasing the varied styles, and tastes of the crew, making this a versatile record that s gonna find a way to fit in where ever it s needed. on the a side we have a taste of attentat s signature sound: hypnotic, driving minimal techno. a slowly evolving meditation, this stripped down, pulsing jam will ignite the late night dance floor. an irrepressible tinkerer, roy england took the original, funked it up, worked it out, and streamlined it for peak time. in his remix, roy crafted a consummate party jam, steady, pumping, and full of life. with his remix, time for trees takes you on a psychedelic, housey frolic through the woods. what we have here is a slow building, mind-bending groove, wrapped up in cascading waterfalls of sound. the make mistakes label has built a diverse sound around a cohesive aesthetic. with the photon remixes, they continue that tradition, with style and depth, fine-tuned for dance floor lovers.

repress - without dl code - susso, aka bassist / producer huw bennett, creates music inspired by, and directly sampling, the magnificent sounds of the mandinka people, recorded during a recent trip to gambia. initially travelling with the aim of gaining perspective as a musician and to discover a new world of music first hand, huw found himself humbled by such a welcoming community of artists, mostly belonging to the celebrated susso and kuyateh griot families.
the tracks are composed entirely from original source material, field recordings and huw’s talents as a multi-instrumentalist, performing tuned percussion from the region including the mandinka balafon, kutiringding drum, aswell drawing on his skill as a professional upright / electric bassist. the music produced has a contemporary electronic sound, whilst still paying homage to a traditional gambian aesthetic. keira (meaning peace) guides the listener through huw’s journey up the river gambia, being welcomed into remote dusty villages, where your people are the most important thing in life

raphael ray munnings is famously known as the band leader and singer of the mighty bahamian funk legends the beginning of the end, he is also a formidable solo artist in his own right with a clutch of sought after, rare 7- singles throughout the early to late 70 s as well as numerous appearances with his band. opportunity knockin from 1972 is an early one from ray, released on tk disco s alston imprint, it s often been a rare 45 and doesn t show up very often. opportunity knockin is channelling the usual sun-soaked vibes of his later material this single is a sweet one for summertime, breezy horn infused funk with tough drums and that caribbean vibe. the b-side is also a winner, sleep on, dream on is an uptempo slice of wah wah driven soul with a serious groove and a peace-loving, ecologist theme running through ray s vocals. sublime stuff, for real fans of funk and soul rarities! nab this rare 45 of caribbean soul, re-issued here in it s original 45 rpm format with the original alston label artwork. it s been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of tk disco / alston records, miami florida, usa.

space is the place friends! we are happy to present “space consciousness”, the first album on our little imprint composed by astro traveller adham zahran. born on a day where the sun was aligned with the eridanus supervoid, a ray of energy from deep space unraveled an ancient force inside baby adham that allowed him to share the wonders of the cosmos through some seriously funky house muzak. the 8 track joint comes to you in a binary format with a 12” continuous analog excerpt (by buying the 12“, you will get a download-code for the complete album). on top of that we asked professor chinaski, a proofed expert of the chaos theory and meteor card collector, to invert the albums intro into a slammy dancefloor banger, which the professional disc jockey won’t be able to resist. if you don’t believe us, ask your astrologist!

olim in latin can be used to indicate a time in the past or in the future. it can mean ‘once upon a time’ and ‘someday in the future’. a name and a project to try to move away from trends and genres, by taking inspiration from the past but at the same time leaving it, moving forward to shape a different and more narrative sound. the first attempt to do so is recursively: an 8 track album, opening with a sentence from bunny marrett sampled from an old documentary about st paul’s and the jamaican immigration in bristol during the 80’s. inspired by those intro words, recursively is a journey born from many years moving around, packing and unpacking suitcases, leaving villages, finding cities,leaving friends and finding more, emigrating, integrating. it’s a story about an entire generation trying to find the peace somewhere, somehow, sometimes by repeating the same steps in a loop of actions which seem to be the same but ultimately never are. it’s a soundtrack of those feelings and at the same time a message of hope to continue the journey through the faith that the meaning is the infinite journey itself. an infinite loop masterfully represented in carol rollo’s illustration. a story to be continued.

the eighth piece of the golden ravedays puzzle will be released on hippie dance in august 2017. number 8 of the series introduces two tracks that will take you to the far side of somewhere you’ve never been before. they are both reminiscent of outer space blues playing spooky games in a dust bowl.

side a features tuesday paris texas a tastefully arranged track with vintage sounds passing nonchalantly through a wild western aural landscape. the music is announced like a cowboy movie dual complete with bar doors swinging on rusty nails in slow motion. mournful guitar strings swirl over a steady horseback galloping beat, expanding into a full-on-fire dance track. halfway through a woman’s haunted voice appears and disappears like an eerie siren, a gunshot is fired (was that a gunshot?), a man whispers “what!?” tuesday paris texas is in no hurry to give an answer.

side b features mirage a desert sound collage glued to a steady pulse that rolls and rolls, circumventing any destination. mirage is a contour map of no surprising peaks just undulating valleys of wistful cathodic sound creeks, sometimes veering off to plains in full view of the moon, in earshot of solitary wolf cries. like tuesday paris texas, mirage is testament of superpitcher’s versatile prospecting beyond the elemental sound tools of the electronic music trade.
